Sofa and Pillows

Natural fabrics should always be your first choice when shopping for a new sofa. They are more comfortable and softer to the touch and make the room feel cozier and prettier. Synthetic fabrics could be blended in with the natural but avoid using 100% synthetic.

For those of you who have small kids and pets and are worried about the trendy light/ white sofa, a darker color could be the solution. Dark grey, green and blues are great options and can turn out very pretty. Just remember: there is no such thing as a bullet-proof sofa! What exists is care and maintenance, even performance fabrics need to be well cared for. Make sure to follow the fabricants instructions when cleaning and to hire a professional cleaning company as needed.

If you want to spice it up and bring some personality into your space, invest in good pillows. They can be of different colors, patterns and textures for a more creative look. If you want an elegant and composed feel, use either velvet or 100% linen pillows or pillows made from the same fabric as your sofa.

Curtains

For any type of, what we call, "window treatment" or simply curtains, also go for natural fabrics. A blend of linen and polyester for example can be used to reduce cost and improve durability. Linen brings elegance and all the cozy feels. When in doubt, just know that you can never go wrong with white linen curtains.

Rugs

A good exercise to do before starting to shop for a new rug is trying to perceive inside your own house, what kind of feeling the different materials bring to you. Every sensorial stimulus brings a certain comfort or discomfort to different people. Whether is in the living room or master bedroom, chances are, you're going to step on it with a bare foot. What do you want to feel?

Again, natural materials will bring the highest level of comfort. However, they might require higher maintenance too.

A curiosity about the Orientals is that, usually, the more they age, the better they look. There's even a technique called stone washed where the rugs are washed on top of a rocky surface to give it that old/ used look.

Enjoy the weekend!
